Here are a few of my favorite data visualization resources by type of project. UVM has more resources available through the software portal. There are also many free and subscription based options.
Excel
Excel is available through UVM. It is a spreadsheet program you can create simple graphs and charts with. To make graphs unique you can customize and refine them. Here are available chart types and how to select data to make a chart.
RStudio
RStudio is a statistical analysis coding tool that can also be used to make complex and customizable data visualizations that are reproducible. You can download R and RStudio. The primary graphic making package is ggplot2 from the Tidyverse.
Flourish
Flourish is a no code software that has a variety of graphs and interactive content.
Datawrapper
Datawrapper is a no-code easy to use program that makes elegant graphs.
Tableau
Tableau lets you import and combine data sources. It is used mostly for business data. You can build visualizations with a drag and drop interface. Students and Instructors can use the full version of Tableau for free for a year with renewals. Tableau Public allows you to create graphs for free if user/data privacy is not a concern.

PowerPoint
PowerPoint is available through UVM. It is good for creating posters, presentations, and diagrams.
Canva
In Canva you can create posters, brochures, and infographics. More customization is available with the paid version.
Adobe Illustrator
Illustrator is a vector based design app. It can be used for graphic design and infographics. It is available to use in the Center for Multimedia Development (CMD) lab at Howe Library
VOSviewer
VOSviewer is used for visualizing bibliometric networks such as keywords or co-author connections. It can analyze a large number of articles to create network graphs. VOSviewer Getting started has a video and instructions.
Research Rabbit
ResearchRabbit is a citation-based literature mapping tool.
Flourish
Flourish has an option for customizable network graphs.
