UVM Libraries supports all of our users. Use this page to plan a visit to the library or learn about digital accessibility. We provide specific details about library entrances, quiet spaces, accessible restrooms and more.
Howe Library has two entrances during the school year and one entrance during the summer.
Dana Library is located within the Larner Learning Commons. Enter the vestibule opposite Converse Hall, then you'll see the main doors to the library. The library doors have push buttons for access, but the vestibule doors do not.
Silver Special Collections Library is located in Room B201 of the Billings Library building. There are two entrances.
At Howe Library, the second and third floors are designated quiet floors. On the second floor there is a Quiet Study room that is for silent study only.
Find Dana Library's Quiet Study room (noise level: silent) by walking to the back of the library from the front entrance, then turning right. Study rooms and study pods are also available to be reserved for both individuals and groups.
In Billings Library (the building in which Silver Special Collections Library is located), Billings North Study Lounge and the Special Collections Reading Room are both areas for quiet study.
There is one wheelchair accessible stall in each of the two gender specific, multi occupancy restrooms at Dana Library. There are no gender-inclusive options. Dana users with CATCard access to Given (LCOM and CNHS students) can find gender inclusive restroom options in the Given Complex.
According to the University of Vermont policy, service animals accompanying an individual with a disability are allowed in public areas of campus including UVM Libraries. Service animals in training must be registered with the appropriate office before being brought on campus. Emotional support animals are only allowed in university residential housing, unless approved as a reasonable accommodation. See the University policy (PDF) for more information.
If you are unable to use the stairs, and the elevators are not in use due to an emergency, designated areas of rescue assistance are located on the 2nd and 3rd floors adjacent to the front elevator. There is an emergency phone at these locations if you are unable to call 911 from your own phone. The emergency phone is geo-located and connects directly to police services.
There are two exits from the library to be used in the event of an emergency. Since Dana Library is on ground level, evacuating patrons do not have to worry about elevator access.
We adhere to WCAG standards and work with vendors of library content to ensure accessibility.
