Troubleshooting

Troubleshoot printing problems:

Are you struggling to print a document? Here are a few steps to help you avoid printing problems.

Please Note: Files larger than 50 MB in size cannot be uploaded to Pharos Print Center. Please have them printed at UVM Print & Mail at 118 Waterman Building.

At certain times in the semester, most students will have projects due at the same time, which often means they are trying to print at the same time. Plan ahead to avoid stress.
Printers are available at Howe Library, Dana Health Sciences Library, Silver Special Collections Library, Waterman Print and Mail Center or your department, if they offer printing. Different locations may use a different printing process. Please see "other locations" above.
The printers sometimes have trouble printing documents from email, Google Docs and other online locations. This can be solved by first saving the document to your device and printing from that version.
  • Images (.jpeg, .gif, etc.) often come in odd sizes. Consider pasting an image into a Word or PDF document before printing.
  • Howe Library printers can print 8 1/2" x 11", 8 1/2" x 14, or 11" x 17" documents.
  • Ask for 8 1/2" x 14" or 11" 17" paper at the library Circulation Desk prior to printing as they are not loaded into the printers.
  • If you need a different paper size, contact the UVM Print and Mail Center.
If a document has a mix of text, graphics, charts and tables, it can be difficult for the printer to render it. To Print to PDF, after you choose "Print", pick "Print to PDF" as the destination, rather than a specific printer.
