You are required to use APA citation style for this class.  Remember, that when citing your sources, order and detail of information matter.

Additionally, you may need to cite aspects of your  class not included in the above citation guide.  A proper APA bibliographic citation to a guest lecture would look like this:

Kutner, L. (2024, September 12).  NR 1010 guest lecture: The UVM Libraries as a diverse ecosystem of knowledge.  University of Vermont, Burlington, VT.

Or you may want to cite some specific information you learned by talking to someone within the professional context of your class.  Personal communication is not included in your References Cited section, when using APA style.  Instead, personal communication is only cited in-text.  For example:

Providing proper attribution for all your sources of scholarship is important in your NR 1010 assignments (W. Poleman, personal communication, September 12, 2024).

Or, you may not be sure how to properly cite a local organizational website: Here is an APA bibliographic citation for the Friends of the Winooski website:

Friends of the Winooski.  (2023).  Friends of the Winooski.  Retrieved September 12, 2024, from https://winooskiriver.org/

There are many reasons why it is important to cite the resources that you consult when doing research.  The most important of these are:

• Gives credit to authors whose works you have used (whether you quote them or not).
• Provides a trail by which others can locate the materials you have consulted.
• Provides evidence of your research.
• Properly citing materials is one strategy to help you avoid plagiarizing.

What is plagiarism?

Plagiarism is using another person's work without giving them credit.

At UVM plagiarizing, whether intentional or by accident, is a violation of the  Code of Academic Integrity (PDF).

Easy ways to avoid plagiarizing:

• Never cut and paste material into a paper.
• Always cite your sources.
